Weekly Notes (26/27/28) - 2024

I've been quite busy lately, barely finding the time to sit down and write. However, I am still gathering notes on a weekly basis.

Starting this blog took time as I debated over the best way to record my thoughts for years. It took a while for me to realise that the habit of logging by itself is more important than the medium. Although I have not been posting anything over the last few weeks, I did log in various mediums locally, for my own references. This has been going good.

Lately, I've been enjoying the quiet of listening more than speaking, often while writing or sipping a black coffee. My friend Dwarakesh in Chennai, for example, steps out for his 4 PM coffee like clockwork, a ritual that marks his day. Then, there's my perippa(uncle), whose predictable schedule brings a sense of comfort. You know exactly what he would be doing given the time & day. I've come to terms with it as I age. Speaking of which, most of my times over these weeks have been at WeWork. My favourite moments, however are, during my bike rides—when I listen to podcast, it feels like my bike knows the way on its own.

Ever since TARS came in picture, we started measuring his food, sleep and potty cycles. This has become such a routine that I started quantifying my day-to-day activities as well, and I am enjoying it. Every morning, I weigh the vegetables I cut to see how much we eat each day. I also record my daily steps and have been consistent in measuring my sleep cycles. Numbers have been well so far.

Others

  • Sometimes, I step out of the workspace to gaze up at the daytime sky. It's a small, everyday magic by air molecules scattering the light, painting them blue. No matter how hard you try or what equipment you use, you cannot suck out the molecules to see the black beyond. However illogical it may seem, the very thought has been making feel humble and futile over the years, helping me forgive situations beyond my control.

  • I recently stumbled upon Mark Rober's YouTube channel. He's a former NASA engineer who spent nine years working on projects like the Curiosity Rover, which was sent to Mars. He has been running YouTube channel for quite sometime now, educating kids about science. Watching some of his videos during breaks has been a delight. It's a feast for my inner child.

  • My friend got married recently. I paid a brief visit to Chennai, attended to my mom and spent good quality time with my close friends.

  • I'm awaiting Season 2 of Severance—sometimes I wish that my life could be like that—completely separated but with my phone, leaving aside to truly disconnect. Despite the intentions, the urge to pull my phone and reconnect remains. I am forever fighting this battle.

  • Jagan, pointed me to an article about creating work journals to regain focus at work. I tried it for a day and it worked out for me.

  • I attended the Fifth Elephant conference. It was Yash who referred, and let me hitch a ride in his car. I met Thej and few of his connections as well. Thanks to both, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The day started with technical discussions and later we delved into the philosophies behind it. I should do this more often.
